-Lumpkin Girls cross country earns 11th at State Meet
The Lady Indians high school cross country team completed its 2018 season with an 11th place finish at the GHSA Cross Country State Championship Meet at Carrollton High School on Saturday, Nov. 3.
“All our runners seemed to have strong races and good times today,” said LCHS head cross country coach Daphne Faulkner. “I am so proud of what they have accomplished this season.”
Freshman Abbie Hilchie led the way for the Lumpkin runners at the State Meet. Hilchie showed off the speed that had earned her top finishes throughout the season on the Carrollton course, placing 24th overall among the 188 best cross country runners in Class AAA. Hilchie finished the course in a time of 22:06.24.
Following less than a minute behind Hilchie, sophomore Caroline Rairigh finished in 36th place with a time of 22:46.13 for the Lady Indians’ second best time at the event.
Junior Emily Martinez put in a strong performance at the State Meet as she ran her way to a 63rd place finish with a time of 24:06.82.
Senior Sarah Mulkey ran a solid race for a 74th place finish and junior Tatianna Lovell placed 95th overall to round out the top five runners for the Lady Indians at the meet.
Freshman Kelly Cronan and sophomore Tatum Coulter also had good performances at the State event, finishing 116th and 129th respectively.
The combined success of the Lady Indian runners at the GHSA Cross Country State Championship Meet was enough for the team to earn an 11th place team finish out of the 30 competing Class AAA schools at the event.
The strong showing by the Lady Indians at the GHSA State Meet completed a highly successful 2018 season for the team.
With the majority of the team consisting of underclassmen, Faulkner is excited about what these Lady Indian runners will accomplished in the future for themselves and the program.
“With our team being young and with their work ethic being as strong as it is, I can’t wait to see how far these girls can improve and what they can achieve in the future,” Faulkner said.
