LCHS Football - Hopkins named to All-Region first team
Junior defensive lineman Aaron Hopkins proved to be a beast on the gridiron for the Indians’ defense during the LCHS varsity football team’s 2018 season.
From his lead by example performances throughout the season to his aggressive pursuit and tackling skills to his ability to singlehandedly blow past offensive linemen and disrupt quarterbacks, Hopkins was a major factor in the Indians’ defensive pressure throughout the season.
Hopkins averaged 6.3 tackles per game and recorded seven sacks in the 2018 season. Hopkins didn’t let many opponents get past him during the course of the season and proved to be a formidable piece of the Indians’ defense.
Hopkins also made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks with his defensive pressure and the junior’s 35 quarterback hurries during the 2018 season put him among the tops in Class AAA in that category.
The junior shined on special teams in 2018 as well, recording a blocked extra point and a blocked punt.
Offensively, Hopkins opened holes for the Indians’ stable of running backs with his powerful blocking at the tight end position.
With everything that Hopkins achieved on the field during Lumpkin’s 2018 campaign, the junior was selected to the Region 7-AAA All-Region first team.
Region 7-AAA coaches participated in the vote for the All-Region selections. Hopkins joined fellow teammates Luke Smith, Devan Dye and Jordan Buice on the All-Region first team.
Tucker Kirk, Kyle Amburgey, Kevin Harkins and Cody Bennett earned All-Region second team honors and Noah Adams, Dart Parker, Coleman Wendl and Ethan Kline received honorable mentions for their accomplishments under the Friday night lights during the 2018 season.
When the original Region 7-AAA All-Region football story came out in the Dec. 26 issue of The Dahlonega Nugget, Hopkin’s name was left off of the list of LCHS football players selected to the Region 7-AAA All-Region teams.
