John F. Barr III
John Francis Barr III, 75, passed away on February 5, 2019. John was born on February 11, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late John F. Barr Jr. and Joan T. Barr.
While John lived most of his life in various parts of Florida, he also lived in N.C. for several years before relocating to Dahlonega for the last 3 years of his life.
He was a 1962 graduate of Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He then served in the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman, stationed in Germany. After his service in the Air Force, he attended Florida State University and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1970. John retired from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement after he served 23 years, and went on to work for the Florida Bar Association until he decided to retire permanently.
John was a friend to many and had friends all over the United States. He was a lover of art and music and enjoyed traveling to Germany often. He was passionate about his ‘Noles and was an avid sports fan with an incredible amount of knowledge about many sports. He volunteered as a Big Brother for the BBBS of Florida for two decades. He had a heart of gold and was incredibly generous.
He is survived by his sister Jan Landers, his niece Amy Parrott, whom he considered to be his daughter, her husband Michael and their two daughters Caroline and Catherine, whom he treated as his grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
