Emma JoAnn Abercrombie
Mrs. Emma JoAnn Abercrombie, age 65, of Murrayville passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
JoAnn was born on March 13, 1953 to the late O.L. and Adell Underwood Hatcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Johnny Hatcher, Tommy Hatcher, Jim Hatcher, and Perry Hatcher. JoAnn was a loving wife and mother. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Gramma.” JoAnn had the heart of a teacher making sure all the children could tell time, spell their names, and read. She helped so many to get their start at the basics and then to excel in life. JoAnn was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2.
Survivors include her husband Upton Abercrombie; son and daughter in law Shadrick and Vikki Abercrombie; daughter and son in law Shalece and Phillip Mull; grandchildren Baily Abercrombie, Kinlee Abercrombie, Kylee Abercrombie, Caleb Chastain, Braylen Chastain, and Kailyn Mull; great granddaughter Amelia Brookshire, all of Murrayville; brother and sister in law Benny and Maxine Hatcher, Gainesville; sister Bea Moss, Dawsonville; sister and brother in law Eula and Gene Parker; sister Ellon England, both of Murrayville; sisters and brothers in law Helen and Floyd Tanner, and Joyce and Clifton Chester, both of Dawsonville; brother and sister in law Jerry and Peggy Hatcher, Dahlonega; sister and brother in law Patsy and Mike Sherwood, Murrayville; sister in law Shirley Pace; sister in law and brother in law Una Abercrombie and John Lilac, both of Murrayville; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18, 2018 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Gerrells officiated and a eulogy was given by Baily Abercrombie. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2 Cemetery.
