Christopher Gene LaPlaca
Christopher Gene LaPlaca, 62, born on February 18, 1956, passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 2, 2018. Chris struggled with the effects of Parkinson’s for many years and is now at rest.
He was an Army Veteran who served in Augsburg Germany, Ansbach Germany, and Fort Bliss TX. Chris served in the Army as a Czech 98G at Field Station Augsburg, the 501st in Katterbach, FRG and Fort Bliss TX. Chris attended DLI for Basic and Advanced Czech in1979 and 1983 and always loved Monterey. He graduated from DLI in Monterey, CA and is remembered by his peers as the best Czech linguist they had ever come across.
He loved outdoor activities, often taking his family camping and fishing. There are many fond memories of him taking his children to Ellijay, GA to get apples and pumpkins every autumn. An avid lover of learning, he often partook in trivia and board games. He loved science fiction and Doctor Who and passed this love on to his children. He had a lifelong love of music and photography.
He is preceded in death by his mother Joan Conway LaPlaca, Sister Colleen LaPlaca, and brothers Joseph LaPlaca Jr and Thomas LaPlaca.
He is survived by; his children Theresa Kathleen LaPlaca, Jennifer Lynn LaPlaca, Michael Christopher LaPlaca, their mother Diane LaMotte, and Christina Marie LaPlaca, her mother Sarah Morton Simcox; his companion and caretaker and friend Rebecca Mullins; his father Joseph LaPlaca Sr; brothers William, Mark, and Peter LaPlaca; sisters Mary Ann Colegrove, Frances LaPlaca, Catherine LaPlaca Fusco, Marian LaPlaca Long, and Claudia LaPlaca; and many other family and friends.
He leaves behind a legacy of service for his country and love for his family. He will be forever missed.
