Could residents get a break on their county bills at tax season? There’s still no digest and possibly more department budget hearings to take place, so nothing is yet set in stone. But Lumpkin County Commissioners are working hard to cut half a mill beyond the rollback rate from ad valorem taxes.

By Jake Cantrell The Nugget Growing up, Betsy Franck was into every kind of music she could sing. Destined for a life and career in music she was well on her way to becoming a music scholar, majoring in vocal performance in college and using a gifted voice to excel in operatic style singing.

It’s far from set in stone, but the proposed $22.2 million Lumpkin County budget for 2020 will grow slightly over this year’s by $400,000. “We had some real growth in the digest this year, and some inflationary growth,” Finance Director Allison Martin said at last week’s work session.
