Girls basketball earns region wins over West Hall and Gilmer

The Lumpkin County varsity basketball squads had a busy week as the Indians played on the road against Region 7-AAA foes West Hall and Gilmer.  The girls team got things started against West Hall and came away with a dominant win over the Spartans.

Spilt coffee and an out-of-control Jeep Wrangler resulted in a gasoline-fueled fire at Marathon last Sunday that produced plenty of flames but thankfully no injuries, according to official reports. It was just after 6:40 p.m.

The members of the Lumpkin County Board of Education recently voted to approve a new name for Lumpkin County Elementary School to coincide with the opening of the new facility on Pinetree Way: Cottrell Elementary School at the Cottrell Community Education Complex.
The new Lumpkin County Elementary School facility is under construction at 216 Pinetree Way. It is scheduled to welcome students for the first time in August.

New elementary school prepares for opening next year

UPDATE: The Lumpkin County Board of Education voted to approve the name of the new Lumpkin County Elementary School at their December 12 regular session. The school will be called “Cottrell Elementary School at the Cottrell Community Education Complex.

Middle school LEGO league builds on success

Lumpkin County’s LEGO League reputation is building. And it reached new heights on Saturday as Lumpkin County Middle School hosted the regional competition for the First LEGO League Challenge.
