New Military Science Center coming to UNG

Symbolic ground was broken Saturday on a new $13.3 million Military Science Center for the University of North Georgia’s Corps of Cadets program.

Six Gap ride is ready to roll out Sunday

The Six Gap Century bike event, one of Georgia’s longest cycling challenges, will take place in Dahlonega for its 35th year on Sunday, September 24. The bike ride brings in over 2,000 cyclists riding across Lumpkin, White, and other counties to conquer the North Georgia mountains.

ConnectAbility 5K festivities return on Saturday

The annual ConnectAbility 5K will return to downtown streets on Saturday, Sept. 9.  Along with it, comes the long-awaited rematch of the Tortoise and the hare.  They will hopefully hop and/or crawl their way to the finish line on the outskirts of Hancock Park.
Sophomore Kaden Dillon, teacher Erin Endicott, senior Makayla Brooks and senior Brittanie Cooper were among the many who helped transform a school bus into a mobile classroom that will be used in the local community.

Students at Lumpkin County High School who are learning to be teachers have designed their own way to gain experience with educating young learners. And it has four wheels. Buses are nothing new at school.

Excited teachers, school staff, elected officials and project managers gathered Monday morning on Pinetree Way to witness the official ribbon cutting for the brand new Cottrell Elementary School. The new $21.6 million dollar facility is set to open its doors to students on August 1.
