BREAKING NEWS: GOP has grand night in Lumpkin County
The votes are in and Republican candidates have swept their way to victory in Lumpkin County in a trend that was evident on local, state and federal levels.
In the race for the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat, incumbent Rhett Stringer defeated Peri Lyn Gordon by nabbing 82 percent of the vote. (9,017 votes to 1,850)
Likewise, the soon-to-be vacated District 4 seat of Bob Pullen will now be occupied by local JROTC instructor Jeff Moran as the Republican candidate topped Democrat Teresa Gay with 81 percent of the ballots. (8,849 votes to 2,046)
Local voters also gave incumbent Doug Collins the nod over Josh McCall by awarding the Republican 81 percent of the vote in the race for the 9th congressional district. (8,822 votes to 2,109)
On a state level, GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp won the night with Lumpkin voters by netting 80 percent of the vote over Democrat Stacey Abrams. (8,860 votes to 2,058)
Libertarian candidate Ted Metz picked up 166 local ballots for 1.5 percent of the vote.
