Harold Poore

Resident of Dawsonville

Harold Poore, 84, of Dawsonville, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2013. He was born in Hall County on August 23, 1929. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church.

He retired from North Georgia College. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed his gospel/bluegrass music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Coleman and Bertie Reeves Poore, two brothers and four sisters, former spouse, Cora Mae Poore.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Doris and Ronnie Woody, Suches, Ga.; Ann and Ronnie Fields, Dahlonega, Ga.; Brenda and Ernie Dunn, Dahlonega, Ga.; Robbie and Rick Goode, Dawsonville, Ga. Six grandchildren: Anthony Pruitt, Bryan and Jennie Wilson, Lacy Garrett, Christopher Taylor and Brandon Dunn. Two great-grandchildren: Kaleb and Matthew Wilson. One sister, Miss Martha Ann Poore, Murrayville, Ga.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C.B. Martin officiating.

Interment followed at Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery.

John Edward Fowler

Resident of Dahlonega

John Edward Fowler, Jr, 80 of Dahlonega, Ga. passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at North East Georgia Medical Center with his family. He was a veteran, having served in the Navy and Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Fowler.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Robin Fowler of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Paul Anderson of Dahlonega, Ga.; son, Keith Fowler of Athens, Ga.; grandchildren, Lauren Fowler, Kaleigh Fowler, Stephen and Maribel Anderson, Eric Anderson, Karyn Anderson, Miller Anderson; sister, Eunice Nabozny of N.Y.

Inurnment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Ga. at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Donald “L.D.” Smallwood

Resident of Murrayville

Donald “L.D.” Smallwood, age 77, of Murrayville, Ga. died Monday, December 9, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Smallwood was a lifelong resident of Hall County and was retired from the Fieldale Corporation.

He was the son of the late Jim and Nancy Savage Smallwood and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Roger Donald Smallwood; great-granddaughter, Brianna Smallwood; sister, Nancy Virginia Smallwood; brothers, Roger Edward Smallwood, J.D. Smallwood, Y.D. Smallwood, and C.D. Smallwood.

L.D. is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frances Pirkle Smallwood, Murrayville, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Sandra Smallwood, Dahlonega, Ga., Wilis and Ann Smallwood, Ellijay, Ga., James and Michelle Smallwood, Dahlonega, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Joe Stringer, Dahlonega, Ga, Nancy and Jason Chambers, Dahlonega, Ga.; brothers, Charles Smallwood, Florida, Robert Smallwood, Dawsonville, Ga., and Benny Smallwood, Dahlonega, Ga.; sister, Lougenia Loggins, Dawsonville, Ga.. 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Smallwood were held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, Ga.

Rev. Les Fuller and Rev. Chris Ellis officiated.

Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Hall County.

Faye Walker Housley, 80, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Dahlonega, Ga. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur E. “Tarzan” Housley, parents Captain and Liller Walker, and grandson Justin Armstrong; siblings Edna Peck, Lucy Walker, Bessie Pritchett, Carolyn Cabe, Clifford Walker.

She is survived by her sister, Geneva Betzold of Dahlonega; daughter, Judy Armstrong of Dahlonega; son, Chip Housley of Dahlonega; grandson, Joseph Armstrong; granddaughter, Laura and Michael Wilson; great granddaughter, Aubrey Wilson of Murrayville, Ga; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Dahlonega Baptist Church. Interment followed the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Dahlonega, Ga.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Dahlonega Baptist Church Building Fund.
