Bertha Mae Chambers

Mrs. Bertha Mae Chambers, age 73, of Murrayville, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

Mrs. Chambers was a Union County native who had lived in Murrayville for the past 50 years.

She was a retired poultry worker and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Union County.

She was the daughter of the late Grady and Lizzie Garrett Grizzzle and was also preceded in death by a sister Sharon Sue Grizzle; and brothers, Marvin, Calvin, and John Robert Grizzle.

Mrs. Chambers is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gene “Jack” Chambers, Murrayville; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Lynn Gilstrap, Clermont, Ga., Janice and John Barrett, Dahlonega, Connie and David Norrell, Dahlonega, Mary and Marty Murphy, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Wakinea Chambers, Murrayville, Danny and Frankie Chambers, Gainesville, Ga., Scott and Janie Chambers, Dahlonega; sisters, Betty Ruth Grizzle, Suches, Lois Grizzle, Suches, Wanda Gilstrap, Cleveland, Ga., and Janelle Grizzle, Suches; brothers, Joe Grizzle, Dahlonega, Charles Grizzle, Suches, Ralph Grizzle, Cleveland, Ga., Clyde Grizzle, Cleveland, Ga., Donald Grizzle, Hiawassee, Ga., David Grizzle, Cleveland, Ga., and Tony Grizzle, Suches. Sixteen grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chambers were held Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Marty Murphy and Rev. Brent Gilstrap officiated.

Interment followed in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Union County.

Verna Truelove Rogers

Verna Truelove Rogers, age 51, of Dahlonega, died Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

Verna was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Verna was the daughter of the late Vernon Truelove and Virginia Turley Truelove and was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Syme.

She is survived by her son, Chris Rogers, Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and George Marlow, Dahlonega, Melissa and Daniel Wayne, Dahlonega; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bobby Edmondson, Dahlonega. Eleven grandchildren and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Interment followed in the Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Barbara Jean Hicks

Mrs. Barbara Jean Hicks, age 84, of Dahlonega, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Mrs. Hicks was an Anderson, S.C. native who had lived in Lumpkin County since 1980. She was a former Hall County resident, a retired textile worker, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Gainesville, Ga.

Mrs. Hicks was the daughter of the late Harrison and Minnie Potts Franks and was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Horace Hicks.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Larry Lingerfelt, Dahlonega, Cindy Hicks Long, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Marion and Laura Hicks, Dahlonega; sister, Eloise Elliott, Anderson, S.C. Seven grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hicks were held September 24, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Jammie Fortner officiated.

Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville.
