Robert Gordon Hester

Robert Gordon Hester, age 66, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hester was born May 7, 1946 in Lumpkin County to the late Gomer and Ruby White Hester. He was a school bus driver and mechanic for Lumpkin County Schools and was of the Holiness Faith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Garner Hester and sister-in-law, Barbara Hester.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Chris Border, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, James and Ashley Hester, Conyers; granddaughter, Kaylee Border, Cleveland; sister, JoAnn and Fred Savage, Dahlonega; brothers, Hoyt Hester, Cleveland; Russell and Mary Jo Hester; Cleveland; Rondal and Tona Hester, Dahlonega; Richard and Judy Hester, Dahlonega; Jack and Maury Hester, Cleveland; Don and Caroline Hester, Dahlonega; Morris Hester, Dahlonega; Horace Hester, Dahlonega; sister-in-law, Helen Hester, Dahlonega; good friend, Eugenia Watkins and many extended family members also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Shane Savage, the Rev. Jason Hester and the Rev. Brandon Hester officiated. Interment followed in the Community Chapel Church Cemetery.

Richard N. Ledford

Mr. Richard N. Ledford, age 85, of Gainesville, Ga., died Friday, September 7, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Ledford lived most of his life in Hall County. He was retired from Milliken Mills, and was of the Holiness faith.

He was the son of the late Fred and Emma Smith Ledford, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Brown Ledford.

Richard is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Larry Sayne, Peggy and Bruno Carillo, and Janice Ledford, all of Gainesville, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Wanda Ledford, Steve and Tracy Ledford, Danny Ledford, all of Gainesville, Ga.; brothers, John C. Ledford of Cleveland, Ga. and Frederick Ledford, of Gainesville, Ga.; and caretaker and best friend, Harry Nickerson. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Wahoo Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Mark Stroud and Rev. Mike Grizzle officiated.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

William Louis Wilcheck

Mr. William Louis Wilcheck, age 83, of Dahlonega, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

Mr. Wilcheck was a native of Columbus, Ga. who had lived in Lumpkin County since 2005. He was a retired plumber and was a member of Community Chapel Congregational Holiness Church in Lumpkin County. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a member of the Cooper-Green Prayer Group in Dahlonega.

He was the son of the late Sam and Martha Lindsey Wilcheck.

Louis is survived by a brother, Truman Wilcheck, Hamilton, Ga. and a sister, Oretha Mason, Dahlonega, Ga. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilcheck were held Sunday, September 9, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Pierce Ashmore officiated.

Interment followrf in the Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

Eugenia Harrison Powel Devereaux

Eugenia Harrison Powel Devereaux, age 93, of Cumming, Ga. passed away peacefully Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Cumming Manor Nursing Home.

Lovingly know as Grandma Gene by her church family at Parkway Presbyterian Church, she was born August 5, 1919 in Signal Mountain, Tenn. to the late Hugh Walker and Ben Addie Eagar Powel. Mrs. Devereaux attended Westminster Girls’ School in Atlanta and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she was a member of AOII Sorority. She was retired from General Electric Credit Corporation where she had worked as a Customer Service Unit Manager. Mrs. Devereaux was a Charter member of Parkway Presbyterian Church where she had served as an Elder and a Deacon.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dean Devereaux; a son, Richard Powel Devereaux and her brothers, Hugh W. Powel and Dr. Charles Powel.

Survivors include her daughter, Dea Harrison Devereaux of Dahlonega; a son, Hugh W. (JoAnn) Devereaux of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Jennifer Devereaux (Tim) Segers of Birmingham, Ala., Dustin Devereaux and Josh Devereaux, both of Cumming; four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her Parkway Presbyterian family.

A celebration of the life of Eugenia Harrison Powel Devereaux was held Tuesday, August 28 at Parkway Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Ford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church, 5830 Bethelview Road Cumming, Ga. 30040 or to Crossroads Hospice of Atlanta, 1957 Lakeside Parkway, Ste. 500, Tucker, Ga. 30084.

John Dudley Ralston

Mr. John Dudley Ralston, age 49, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following a sudden illness.

Dudley was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was an employee of the Koyo Corporation, and was a member and Deacon at Cradle Mountain Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. He was also a Mason.

Dudley was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Ralston.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Dockery Ralston, Dahlonega; son, John C. Ralston and his wife, Brandy, of Dahlonega; daughter, Michelle McKinney and her husband, Wayne, of Cleveland, Ga.; mother, Maxine Long Ralston, Dahlonega; brother, Tony Ralston, and his wife, Crystal, of Dahlonega; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Jimmy Hood, Dahlonega, Patsy and Bobby Holland, Dahlonega, Debbie and James Berry, Gainesville, Ga., Betsy and Jimmy Mills, Jenkinsburg, Ga.; grandchildren Misty Goodman, Summer Ralston, Luke McKinney, Caleb McKinney, and Ella McKinney. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Ralston are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the Cradle Mountain Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Dale Abernathy and Rev. Wayne McKinney will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega all day on Wednesday and again on Thursday until the time of the service.
