Bernice Williams

Mrs. Bernice Williams, age 90, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, at her home.

Mrs. Williams was an Alabama native who had lived in Lumpkin County since 1983. She was a former resident of Gainesville, Ga. She was a homemaker and member of Mill Creek Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Bernice was the daughter of the late William and Alma Cato Thrasher and was also preceded in death by her husband, Amos Williams; brothers, J.G., George, and Harvey Thrasher; sisters, Odell Johnson and Rachel Phillips.

Bernice is survived by a brother, Artis Thrasher, Birmingham, Ala.; sister, Lessie Phillips, New York; special nephew, Danny Thrasher; extra special nephew, Hugh Lee Mann; nephews, Jerry Mann, Steve Mann, and Chris Runyan; nieces, Carolyn Runyan and Belinda Phillips. A large number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Williams were held June 12, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Interment followed in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Loree L. Pierce

Mrs. Loree L. Pierce, age 79, of Easley, S.C., died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta.

Mrs. Pierce was born in Alliance, Nebraska on May 24, 1933. Loree had lived in Easley, S.C. since 1999 and was a former resident of Duluth, Ga., Kent Wash., and Denver Colorado. She was a retired executive secretary with Boeing Aircraft Corp in Seattle. Loree grew up in Alliance, Nebraska and graduated from Alliance High School in 1950. She graduated from Colorado Teacher’s College in Greely, Colorado in 1954. She was a dedicated member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith in Pelzer, S.C.

She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Edith Montgomery Wiltsey and was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Pierce.

Mrs. Pierce is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill Pierce, Easley, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Gilda Pierce, Redmond, Wash., Bradley and Ann Pierce, Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren, Kaden and Kaelyn Pierce; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Sherry Wiltsey, Auburn, Wash. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. David Barton officiated.

Interment followed in the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery in Suches.

Brittany Nicole Jones

Brittany Nicole Jones, age 20, of Dahlonega, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. following a brief illness.

Brittany was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Dewayne Jones and Johnny Ray; and great-grandfather, Cleve Ray.

Brittany is survived by her daughter, Aubrey Nicole Brown; mother and step-father, Tammy and Scott Davis; father, Jason Ray; fiancé, Justin Brown; brother, Jermiah Allen; sisters, Lillian Joan Davis and Emma Ray Gilstrap & Diana Ray; grandparents, Rebeccah Jones, Diana Mayo, J.W. and Joan Davis; great-grandparents, Morene and Ray Gene Anderson; uncles and aunts, Kenneth Jones, Timmy Jones, Michael Davis, Connie Jones, Susan Rogers, Ginger Allen, and Joanie Sullens, all of Dahlonega. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Brittany were held Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Hightower Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Terry Fields and Rev. Bobby Pierce officiated.

Interment followed in the Jones Family Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Linda Ann Walden

Mrs. Linda Ann Walden, age 64, of Dahlonega, died June 7, 2012 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Walden was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and was a member of Yahoola Baptist Church.

She was a Real Estate Broker with Century 21, Walden & Co. Realty.

She was the daughter of the late Dock Candler and Martha Faye Gooch and was also preceded in death by her brother, Joe Terrell Gooch.

She leaves behind her spouse of 39 years, Wyman Walden and three daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Scott Simmons of Cumming, Ga., Kelly and Kevin Boortz of Springdale, Ark. and Brittany and Matt Mundy of Smyrna, Ga. She had six grandchildren whom she loved more than words can express; Graham Simmons, Candler Boortz, Victoria Simmons, Gracie Boortz, Mattie Boortz and Olivia Simmons.

She is also survived by sisters, Alma Edwards Moore, Sue Ridley and sister and brother-in-law Doris and Donald Flanagan; brother, Arnold Gooch, all of Dahlonega, brother and sister-in-law Mike and Marlene Fuller of Anchorage, Arkansas; sisters-in-law Ann Gooch of Jonesboro, Ga. , Elizabeth Tuggle and Margie Walden both of Dahlonega. Mrs. Walden had numerous sweet nieces and nephews that she adored and many other relatives and loving friends.

Arrangements made by Dahlonega Funeral Home. Funeral services were held June 10, 2012 at Yahoola Baptist Church with Reverends Lyman Caldwell, Josh Chatham, and Terry Head officiating.

Interment was in Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery with Steven Adams and Andy Caldwell assisting. Pallbearers were Billy Adams, Clark Anderson, Keith Anderson, Daniel Fuller, Tripp King, Jerry Lunsford, Bobby Miller, Greg Raber, and Jamie Satterfield.

ln lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Memory of Linda to the Northeast Georgia Hospice at 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainesville, Ga. 30501 or make blood donations to the American Red Cross.

Gloria Tuggle

Gloria Tuggle, age 76, of Blue Ridge, Ga., died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge.

Gloria was the daughter of the late Alvin and Edna Wood Tuggle and was also preceded in death by a brother, James Marvin Tuggle; and a sister, Viola Mae Smith.

She is survived by sisters, Geraldine Dorminy, Dawsonville; Frances Ponder, Ellijay and Gail Whitworth, Talking Rock, Ga. A number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Gloria are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Stanley D. “Pinky” Holloway

Stanley D. “Pinky” Holloway, age 57, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Stanley lived most of his life in Lumpkin County. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Holloway; son, Timothy Holloway; and brother, Danny Holloway.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Sheila Holloway, Dahlonega; children, Greg Abernathy and Kevin Rider, both of Dahlonega, Amanda Rider, Dahlonega; mother, Janet Woodward, Dahlonega; sisters, Patricia Garrett and Beverly Davis, both of Dahlonega; brothers, Terry Holloway, Texas, and Tony Holloway, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Taylor and Tyler Holloway. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
