Barbara Sue Grant Rider

Barbara Sue Grant Rider, 61 years old, died peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2012, surrounded by family and friends after courageously battling cancer.

She was born in Dahlonega and spent her young life singing and playing the piano at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Barbara walked with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Saviour all the days of her life and taught those around her the meaning of faith, humility and love. As a mortgage loan officer, Barbara was known as the customer service queen for helping people have a place to call home. Barbara loved her career and spent most of her time with her daughter and grandchildren. She is known to most as “Granny B’ or as friend.

She was the daughter of the late Pauline and Reuben Grant and was also preceded in death by brothers, Billy, Jimmy, Jerry, Cecil, and Charlie Grant.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry Rider, Murrayville; daughter, Donna Seabolt Roberts and her husband Jonathan, of Demorest, Ga.; step-son, Eddie Rider and his wife Jana, of Atlanta; step-daughters, Vanessa Dunagan and her husband Randy, of Cleveland, Ga., Wanda Woodall and her husband Jeff, of Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Patsy Grant, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Brittany Roberts, Karrie Roberts, Ahmia Roberts, Ryan Woodall, Cody Woodall, Ethan Woodall, Ray Dunagan, Thomas Dunagan, Beth-Anne Dunagan, Hayden Rider, Heidi Rider, and Halli Rider; great-grandchildren, Kira Borton, Tydus Dunagan, Sophia Dunagan, and Jessica Manning. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Barbara are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2011 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. David Sosbee and Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Dawson County.

To celebrate the life of Barbara, the family is asking for random acts of kindness—donate blood, volunteer, spend time with a friend.

Michael Calvin Weldy

Michael Calvin Weldy, age 50, of Dahlonega, died December 27, 2011.

Michael was born in Miami, Florida August 24, 1961.

He was the son of the late Gene and Martha Thrash Weldy.

He is survived by brothers, Johany Weldy, Gainesville, Ga., Phillip Weldy, Wartburg, Tenn., and Dwight Weldy, Huntsville, Tenn.; sisters, Jimmie Dills, Dahlonega, Teresa Vickery, Pensacola, Fla., Debbie Zsigray, Elyria, Ohio, Melinda Clark and Barbara Jean Weldy, both of Robbins, Tenn. A number of other relatives also survive.

A graveside memorial service was held January 3, 2012 at the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County.

Tammy Lynn Dowdle

Mrs. Tammy Lynn Dowdle, age 48, of Dahlonega, died January 2, 2012.

Tammy was born in Commerce, Ga. She lived in Dahlonega for most of her life. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Junior Dowdle.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Gary Junior Dowdle, Dahlonega; daughter and fiancé, Brandy Tucker and Michael Standridge, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Scotty Dowdle and Sandy Sullens, Dahlonega; parents, Larry and Jennette Dalton, Jefferson, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Donna Dalton, Jefferson, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Hollis Hitt, Flowery Branch, Ga.; special mother-in-law, Elizabeth Dowdle, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Windy Tucker, Ansley Dowdle, Mason Dowdle, and Landon Dowdle. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held January 5, 2012 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Robert Martin officiated.

Interment followed in Word of Life Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Jean Ella Wiggins

Mrs. Jean Ella Wiggins, age 86, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Mrs. Wiggins was a born May 18, 1925 in Chattanooga, Tenn. She had lived in Dahlonega, since 1969. She taught school for many years in Whitley County, Kentucky and in Lumpkin County. She was a medical technologist at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega for several years. Mrs. Wiggins was a member of Dahlonega United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Gus Whaley and Emma Jean McKenzie Whaley, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Gene Wiggins.

Mrs. Wiggins is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kathy Wiggins, Boone, N.C.; daughter, Beth Wiggins, Dahlonega; grandson, Hunter Wiggins. Several other relatives also survive.

A memorial service for Mrs. Wiggins is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Dahlonega United Methodist Church.

Rev. Christy Greenwald and Rev. Jeff Ross will officiate.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Dahlonega United Methodist Church or National Parkinson Foundation.

Ernestine Frady, age 67, of Dahlonega, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Funeral services were held Friday, January 6, 2012 in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.
