Janet Blair Brown

Janet Blair Brown, age 53, of Dahlonega, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 at her home surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Brown was born in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of Polly Blair and the late Thomas Blair of Lugoff, S.C. She was a retired real estate broker and lived in Dahlonega for the past 22 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ricky DeWayne Brown, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Dallas Troy and Heather Brown, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley Brown-Lemley and Jason Lemley, Sautee Nacoochee; brothers and sisters-in-law Rand and Kristi Blair, Texas and Kenny and Jackie Blair, South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Dudley Lybrand, South Carolina; grandchildren Isaac and Hunter Brown, Malaya Brown and Everett Lemley. A number of other relatives also survive.

A memorial service for Mrs. Brown was held on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Prim officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Janet Blair Brown to the American Cancer Society, 2565 Thompson Bridge Road Gainesville, Ga. 30501.

Paul J. Allen

Paul J. Allen, age 84, of Demorest, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Habersham County on June 30, 1928, he was the son of the late Arvil and Nell Power Allen. Mr. Allen was a retired supervisor with Scovill Manufacturing where he worked for over 30 years. He was a member of Habersham Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Bud Allen, Frank Allen, Charles Allen, Doug Allen, Thelma Chase and Jean Nations.

Surviving are loving wife of 63 years, Janie Sisk Allen of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Sisk and Bill Lassiter of Dahlonega and Lynn and Roger Gribble of Demorest; sisters, Edna Black of Demorest and Yvonne Lindsay of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Dr. Chad Sisk, Angela (Steve) Davis, Lauren (John) Fair and Whitney Gribble; great grandchildren, Zachary Sisk, Matthew Sisk and Hannah Davis; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and wonder neighbors, Vermon and Ruth Banks.

Funeral services were held November 3, 2012, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart. Interment followed in Amy’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Robert McDonald

Mr. Robert McDonald, age 83, of Dahlonega, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga.

Robert was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Dahlonega and was retired from North Georgia College & State University and the Burlington Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega.

Robert was the son of the late Raymond McDonald and Clifford Free McDonald and was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby McDonald; and brothers, Clarence McDonald and Brennon McDonald.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn McDonald, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Melissa McDonald, Dacula, Ga.; brother, Herman McDonald, Dahlonega; sister, Sammi Sullens, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Lindsay Park, Lauren McDonald, Michael McDonald, and Joshua McDonald; great-grandchildren, Addison Park and Ricky Park; two great-granddaughters, Autumn McDonald and Ava McDonald, will be born in February or March of 2013.

Funeral services for Robert were held November 5, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lance Fuller officiated.

Interment followed in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

David Timothy “Tim” Moss

Mr. David Timothy “Tim” Moss, age 61, of Dahlonega, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga., following a period of declining health.

Born February 14, 1951 in McDonough, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Abraham Moss and Lottie Willard Ervin Moss. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Catherine Ashley, Ruth Harrington and Debra Garland and brothers, Cleborn Moss and Jerry Moss. Mr. Moss was a 1970 graduate of Morgan County High School and had retired from Georgia Power Company after 35 years of service. Mr. Moss attended the Siloam Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include, his wife, Trish Moss of Dahlonega; daughter, Dionne and Jimmy Mitchell of Cordele, Ga.; sons, Andy and Heather Moss of Rock Mount, Ga., Brian and Emmalee Moss of Griffin, Ga.; stepdaughter, Amy and Jason Sullens of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Carrie Mitchell, David Mitchell, Claira-Anne Moss, Coleman Sullens, Emily Sullens, Audrey Sullens, Sarah Mulkey, Jacob Mulkey and Zachary Mulkey; brothers, Vernon and Deanne Moss of Stockbridge, Ga., Lamar and Janet Moss of Rutledge, Ga. and Larry Moss of Buford, Ga.; Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Services were held November 3, 2012 at the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Baker and Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated, with the interment following in Bethlehem/Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Evelyn R. Hunt

Evelyn R. Hunt, age 89, of Dahlonega died October 30, 2012.

Evelyn was born in Bronx, New York in 1923. She met and married her husband Robert (Bob) in NY and shortly thereafter they moved to Pinellas Park, Florida in 1950. She and Bob raised their family in Florida and had a cabin in Helen, Ga. where they enjoyed many family vacations.

In 1993, they decided to move to Dahlonega to live out their retirement years. She was a faithful parishioner and an active volunteer with the Women’s Guild of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Dahlonega. She spent many hours in service work in our community such as: baking cookies, visiting residents at Gold City nursing home to play bingo and as a weekly volunteer in the food pantry for the Community Helping Place for many years.

She was a rather quiet, shy person who always gave infectious smiles freely often followed by kisses. She always tried to have a friendly word to say to everyone to brighten up their day. Her kindness and playful quick wit will be missed by all. She loved her family and friends deeply and enjoyed being called “Grandma Ev” by children of all ages.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert D. Hunt in 1996.

She is survived by her children: Bob and Beth Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.), Jeff and Kathy Hunt (Bradenton, Fla.), and Susan Hunt and Laura LaTourette (Dahlonega): grandchildren Brianne Brucker, Christopher and Teresa Hunt, Betsy Hunt, Steven and Chelsea Hunt, Derek and Nasareth Brucker. Great-grandchildren: Bryce Hunt, Devin Chosa, Maddox Hunt and Adelaide Hunt.

Memorial services were held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Dahlonega on November 3, 2012.

Hattie Lucille Summerour Reeves

Mrs. Hattie Lucille Summerour Reeves, age 89, of Dawsonville, (Lumpkin County), died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Gold City Convalescent Center in Dahlonega.

Mrs. Reeves was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was retired from the Burlington Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Hattie was the daughter of the late Dave Summerour and Elizabeth Dale Summerour and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Reeves; infant son, Franklin Reeves; son-in-law, Jewell Norrell; a grandson, Edward Norrell; seven brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Mildred Norrell, Dahlonega; Bonnie and Johnny Rider, Dawsonville; Joyce and Richard Head, Murrayville; Glenda and Eddie Palmer, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law Bobby and Debra Reeves, Dawsonville; Melvin and Joy Reeves, Dawsonville; sister Ann Moon, Dawsonville; special friend Frankie Abercrombie, Dahlonega. A total of 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Reeves were held November 1, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Clifford Allen and Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiated.

Interment followed in the Summerour Cemetery in Lumpkin County.
