Wilburn W. Sullens

Mr. Wilburn W. Sullens, age 72, of Blairsville, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 following an extended illness.

Mr. Sullens was born and raised in Lumpkin County and had spent the last seven years with his niece Cricket Sullens in Blairsville, who had devoted her time to lovingly take care of him. He retired as a foreman at Fieldale Farms and was a Southern Baptist.

Wilburn was the son of the late Winslow and Annie Teal Sullens, and was also preceded in death by his mother, Annie Lee Sullens; daughter, Retha Ann Murphy; granddaughter, Kristie Dills; brothers, Dan, Jeff, Paul, Jimmy, Homer, Eugene and Leon Sullens; sisters, Virginia Mincey and Lucille Gentilley.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Anthony and Miranda Sullens, Cleveland, Ga., Danny and Cathie Sullens, Conway, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Slim Boutwell, Ballground, Ga.; brothers and sister-in-law, Hoyt Sullens, Commerce, Ga., W.D. and Barbara Sullens, Simpsonville, S.C.; special niece, Cricket Sullens, Blairsville, Ga. A total of 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Wilburn were held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. J.R. Fields and Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Interment followed at Saint Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Richard “Sweet Pea” Dockery Dover

Richard “Sweet Pea” Dockery Dover, age 71, of Dahlonega, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 following an extended illness.

Richard was retired from Ronald Fortner Trucking and Paving where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and of the Baptist Faith. The son of the late Andrew and Annie Mae Woody Dover, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ramie and Lois Moose.

Richard’s great enjoyments in life were going to McDonald’s and eating breakfast with his grandson every morning. He also loved hunting, whether it was rabbit, coon, or deer. He also loved gardening very much. His garden was one of the most beautiful ones around. These are the loves of Richard Dover that made him “Daddy,” “Pa,” and “Husband” to his family, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Moose Dover; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Jonathan Sullens, Vickie and Johnny Chattin, Sandy and Robbie McCullough, Lesa and Richard Hayes; very special sister-in-law, Nell Bearden; and grandchildren, Richard Justin and Richard Hunter Hayes, Megan Sullens, Caroline, Carlee, Ava, and Lucas Chattin, all of Dahlonega. Several other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Richard were held Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Curtis Moose and Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Nancy Elizabeth Edenfield

Nancy Elizabeth Edenfield, age 82, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, at a local care facility following an extended illness.

Mrs. Edenfield was born on July 10, 1930, in Cleveland, Georgia; daughter of the late James Wesley and Evie Elizabeth Moose Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lillie Mae Peters and brothers, Arvil, Claude, and Homer Davis. Mrs. Edenfield was a member of Bethesda Fellowship Congregational Holiness Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her loving husband, Rev. William D. Edenfield, Alto, Ga.; daughters, Betty Popadics, Peggy Janet Goff, Rebecca Ann Eggert, and Sybil Abernathy; sons, Stanley Taylor, Anthony Waldon, Robert Lee Jenkins, Justin Edenfield, and Richard Edenfield; several daughters-in-law and sons-in-law; brother, J.B. Davis; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia with Rev. John Graham officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the funeral home.

Vivian Lee Murphy Miles

Vivian Lee Murphy Miles, age 49, of Dahlonega, died Friday, May 16, 2013 after a short battle with cancer.

Vivian was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was an event coordinator and worked at The Castle. She was an amazing, loving mother to her family and to many others. Taking care of other people was what she loved to do. She was feisty, outspoken but most of all her heart was made of gold and she shared that wealth with all.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Frances Howard Murphy.

Vivian is survived by her fiancé, Bruce Tolbert; son and daughter-in-law, James and Jennifer Murphy, Oaks, Penn.; son and girlfriend, Jeffery Miles and Beth Wright; brother, Bradley Murphy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Retha and Donald Harris, Phyllis and Paul King, Virginia and Ricky Fields; sister, Etta Mae Harkins; grandchildren, Dalton and Frances Miles, Slade Murphy, all from Gainesville, Ga.; extended family, Crystal and Jaden Gilstrap and the Miles Family; lifelong friend Virginia Burch. Several other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Vivian were held Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Clarence “Don” Dale

Clarence “Don” Dale, age 65, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Don was born and raised in Gadsden, Ala. before moving to Gainesville in 2012. He was a heating and air technician and was a member of North Gadsden FCM Church in Gadsden, Ala.

Mr. Dale was the son of the late Clarence and Kathleen Vinson Dale, and was also preceded in death by his brother, Troy Dale and sister, Sharon Roe.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Dale, Gainesville, Ga.; sons and daughter-in-law, D.J. Dale, Dustin and Sandi Smith, both of Gainesville, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Dale, Texas, Sandy and Randy Battles, Gadsden, Ala., Lorie and Shane Biddy, Kimberly Dale, Amber Dale, all of Gainesville, Ga. Several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and a number of other friends and relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Don were held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at North Gadsden FCM Church in Gadsden, Ala.

Interment followed in the Lebanon Cemetery in Gadsden, Ala.

Virginia Alexander

Virginia Alexander, 87, of Fitzgerald, Ga. died Monday, May 13, 2013, at her residence.

Memorial services were held May 15, 2013, at Dorminy Mill Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaac Thomas and the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Helen Cook did a reading.

Mrs. Alexander was born July 19, 1925, in Greensboro, Alabama to the late Edmond Asbury and Ruby Rencher Powers. She graduated from Auburn High School and attended Auburn University. A former resident of Darien, Ga., she lived in the Fitzgerald community for the past year. Mrs. Alexander was an avid animal lover having opened her home to a variety of animals. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She was a member of Darien United Methodist Church where she was very active in the UMW and attended Dorminy Mill Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, Georgia

She is survived by her husband of 69 years: Leslie Alexander of Fitzgerald, Ga.; her children: William Michael “Mike” (Janice) Alexander of Greenback, Tenn.; Cynthia Alexander (Ray) Garner of Nancy, Ky.; Daniel J. (Freda) Alexander of Fitzgerald, Ga.; Margaret Ann “Peggy” Alexander-Christie of Cleveland and Leslie Virginia “Ginny” Alexander (Kevin) Regala of Minot, N.D.; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. The family wishes to acknowledge the caring and compassionate service given Mrs. Alexander by the nurses and staff of Blue Gray Hospice as well as her personal caregivers: Mae Wilcox, Helen Cook, Beth Jordan, and Mickey DeWitt.
