Robert A. Mann

Resident of Dahlonega

Robert A. Mann, age 83, of Dahlonega, Ga. died Thursday, March 27, 2014 following an extended illness.

Robert lived in Dahlonega, Ga. since 1995, after moving from Atlanta, Ga. He retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of Dahlonega Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mann; father, Cecil Mann; mother, Lillian Mann and granddaughter, Cammie Black.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Bill Black, Blue Ridge, Ga., Linda and Fred Dickerson, Dahlonega, Ga.; sisters and brother-in-law, Linda Gray, Jasper, Ga., Lynette and Ron Kennedy, Lafayette, La.; grandchildren, Sheila Reinert and Fiancé James Freeman, Orrville, Ohio, Robert & Bella Reinert, Munich, Germany, Marsha Dickerson and Fiancé Jamie Blackwell, Dahlonega, Ga., Angel Edwards, Blue Ridge, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Samantha, Brandon, Anita May, T.J., Amy, Andrew, Austin and Anna; great-great grandchildren, Geoffrey, Cameryn, Isaac, Nicholas, Megan, and Eli. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Robert were held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel, Dahlonega, Ga. Rev. Larry Henry officiated. Interment followed at River View Memorial Park cemetery, Smyrna, Ga.

Florrie George Poole

Resident of Dahlonega

Mrs. Florrie George Poole, age 93, of Dahlonega, Ga., died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Gold City Convalescent Center in Dahlonega following a period of declining health.

Florrie was born in East Point, Ga. January 16, 1921. She had lived in the Dahlonega area for over 20 years and was a former resident of Lilburn, Ga. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was the daughter of the late Issac and Dora Llewallen George and was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank David Poole and seven siblings.

Florrie is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Wayne Hudson, Suches, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Rosemary Poole, Dahlonega, Ga.; grandchildren and spouses, Keith and Lynda Hudson, Laura and Rob Davis, Ian and Jasmine Poole, and Caleb Poole. Eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.

A graveside funeral service was held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Suches, Ga. Rev. Lewis Gregory officiated. A memorial service followed at R Ranch in the Mountains Chapel in Dahlonega.

Charlie L. Grizzle

Resident of Dahlonega

Charlie L. Grizzle, age 83, of Dahlonega, Ga., passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. following a period of declining health.

Charlie was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was retired from the Burlington Pinetree Plant in Dahlonega and was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Charlie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Charlie was the son of the late Raleigh Grizzle and Annie Moose Grizzle and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Grizzle; brothers, Paul Grizzle, Ed Grizzle, and Larry Grizzle; and sister, Ella Mae Calhoun.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christine Grizzle, Dahlonega, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law, Wanda and David Mabry, Dahlonega, Ga., Sherrie Norrell, Dahlonega, Ga.; sisters, Carrie Robinson, Athens, Ga., Bertha Gooch, Dahlonega, Ga., Nell and Junior Simmons, Dahlonega, Ga.; grandchildren, Aireyll and Joe Simmons, Heath and Brandy Christy, Wyatt Norrell, and Bailee Norrell; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Justin Simmons, Dustin and Ashlyn Christy. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Charlie were held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Tony Allison officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

James Daniel McCaleb

Resident of Dahlonega

James Daniel McCaleb, age 53, of Dahlonega, Ga. passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was veteran of the United States Navy where he served in the Sea Bee’s. He was a member of the Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge. He loved to fish and study the Civil War.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Sherman McCaleb.

He is survived by his mother, Edna Louise McCaleb of Dahlonega, Ga.; brothers, Keith and Lisa McCaleb of Dahlonega, Ga., Scott McCaleb of Dahlonega, Ga.; sister, Geanne-Marie McCaleb and Steve Brantley of Mansfield, La.; nephews and niece, Ryan, Jessica, and Ben. And several other relatives.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Ga. with full Military Honors. Condolences may be expressed on-line at www.dahlonegafuneralhome.com.

Reda Johnson

Resident of Gainesville

Mrs. Reda Johnson, age 91, of Gainesville, Ga. died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Gold City Convalescent Center in Dahlonega following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Johnson was born August 9, 1922 in Gainesville, Ga. and had lived in the Murrayville area most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Free Methodist Church in Gainesville, Ga.

Reda was the daughter of the late Lovick Pierce Green and Montine Newton Green and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Johnson; sons, Larry Joe Johnson and Billy Johnson; grandson, Jimmy Johnson; sister, Louise Mooney; and brother, Lovick Pierce Green Jr.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jim Struder, Gainesville, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy Johnson, Gainesville, Ga.; brother, William Green, Gainesville, Ga. Seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Reda were held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega. Rev. Jack Gilreath officiated. Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville. Online condolences may be made at www.banisterfuneralhome.net.

Capt. Jack C. Anderson

Resident of Dahlonega

Capt. Jack C. Anderson, 79 of Dahlonega and formerly of Marietta died Thursday June 5, 2014.

Mr. Anderson was a native and lived most of his life in Cobb County. He moved to Dahlonega in 2007. He started his career with the fire service with the Georgia Forestry Commission and joined the Cobb County Fire Department in 1963 where he served 29 years and retired as a Captain in 1992. He was a Certified Emergency Medical Technician. Mr. Anderson was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are his fiancée Dolores Mabry Cain, Dahlonega; sons Ron (Patricia) Anderson, Roswell; Michael (Sharon) Anderson, Cucamonga, Ca.; brother Bobby (Grace) Anderson, Marietta; step daughter Lori Wampler, Woodstock; step-son Lamar Cain, MT; former wife Betty Anderson, Boman; sister-in-law Mildred Anderson, Dahlonega and two nephews.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Marietta Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Junior Abernathy, Marty Abernathy, and Melvin Holton officiating. Interment was in Crest Hill Cemetery in Marietta.

Nancy Lee Jarrard Wood

Nancy Lee Jarrard Wood, age 68, of Suches, Ga. passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at Northeast Ga. Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

She was born in Suches, Ga. where she had lived all her life. Nancy was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member at Zion Baptist Church in Suches, Ga. She was a loving wife, mother and her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Homer Franklin Jarrard and Mae Hollaway Jarrard; brothers, Preston Jarrard and Cecil Jarrard; sister Dora Lee Jarrard.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Jerry Wood; sons and daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Tina Wood of Dahlonega, Ga., Devin and Ana Wood of Stathem, Ga., Darren and Kelly Wood of Dahlonega, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Sis Jarrard, Hiawassee, Ga., Tommy and Shirley Jarrard of Hiawassee, Ga., Sonny Jarrard, Fla.; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Ann and Gary Brotherton, Concord, N.C., Johnny Sue Head, Norcross, Ga.; grandchildren, Kimber and Cody, Brooklyn, Morgan, Gunner, Logan, Easton, Cannon, Cooper, Maria and Felipe; great-grandchild, Brighton. A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Services for Nancy were held Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, Ga. Rev. Gerald Edmondson, Rev. Terry Head and Rev. Rudy Tribble officiated.

Harper Quinn Sabater, infant daughter of Joseph and Ginger Sabater of Dahlonega, Ga. died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at her home.

She is survived by her parents; brother, Myles Sabater; sisters, Morgan Nix, Regan Sabater and Ryah Sabater, all of Dahlonega, Ga; maternal grandparents, Sharon and Jack Knight, and Ronnie Nix of Dahlonega; paternal grandparents, Artemio and Erlenda Sabater of Rome, Ga.; uncle Ben and Kim Nix of Dahlonega, Ga.; aunt, JoAnne and Randy Reveral of Charleston, S.C.; maternal great-grandparents Murrell and Masteen Bearden of Dahlonega, Ga., several cousins and other family members.

Graveside services for Harper were held Friday, June 6, 2014 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Dawsonville. Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Brenda Benolia Winkler

Resident of Dahlonega

Miss Brenda Benolia Winkler, age 67, beloved resident of Foothills Retirement Home of Dahlonega, GA passed away Saturday, June 1, 2014 following an extended illness.

She was born and raised in Alto, Ga., and had spent the last 10 years with her adopted family of Foothills. She loved people and would greet every visitor at the door. She made many friends in the Lumpkin County community, and liked to help everyone at the home. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Miss Winkler was the daughter of the late Henry and Ruth Winkler, and was also preceded in death by her brother, James Winkler.

She is survived by her sister, Rachel Pritchett, Cornelia, Ga.; adopted family, Perry and Glenda Weaver and family; the staff of Foothills Retirement Home; special friends, Dwight “Doll” Dean and all of her Foothills family; and all of the Saturday night pickin’ group members who encouraged her to participate in every singing.

A memorial service for Brenda is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, Ga. Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Brenda’s ashes will be interred with her mother and father at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Hall County.
