Chick-fil-A night will support mission projects

The Baptist Collegiate Ministry at the University of North Georgia is sponsoring a Family/Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. The evening will feature games, music, face painting, balloon animals, and more, and also the Chick-fil-A cow. The family night will raise funds for the student mission efforts of the UNG ministry.

DDA Annual Awards Program Thursday

The community is invited to the Downtown Development Authority’s annual awards program and reception from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at The Smith House. “Celebrating Success” will honor 2012 accomplishments for downtown commercial building restorations, construction projects, and more. Tickets are $5 and are available at Adams Insurance on North Park Street. For more information, call 706-482-2707.

Last Winter DUMC soup Cafe monday

The Dahlonega United Methodist Church First Monday Café is held on the first Monday of the month October through March from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All you can eat soup and cornbread, and dessert for a $5 suggested donation; proceeds benefit the Community Helping Place and Family Connection. DUMC Fellowship Hall, which is connected to the new sanctuary building, on the main level. 706-864-2521

Great Decisions discussion group weekly

Great Decisions discussion group will meets in the Lumpkin County Library meeting room on Wednesday evenings through April 24. Foreign policy issues are discussed, based on background material in briefing books available from the Foreign Policy Association (www.greatdecisions.org). Topics this year include Egypt, NATO, Myanmar, Iran, the future of the Euro, and others. Anyone interested in learning more about foreign policy issues is invited to attend. Friday Fish Fry Dinners at St. Luke’s

The community is invited to Friday night fish fry dinners at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, across from Hancock Park, from 5-7 p.m. Friday evenings through March 22. The menu includes baked salmon, fish & chips, crab cakes, clam chowder, fries, baked potato, steamed vegetables, and more. Dinner prices are $8-$9; children’s meal, $4, and family order, $25.

Monthly Habitat surplus sale March 8-9

Habitat for Humanity holds a surplus sale of home construction and remodeling supplies (including tools and decorating items) on the second weekend of each month. The items are available Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 16 Westbrook Dr. (next to Chestatee Animal Hospital on Hwy. 52 East). Visa, MasterCard and Discover accepted. All proceeds benefit Habitat.
