Friends, family members and law enforcement officials are still on the lookout for a local student and avid hiker who may be lost in the woods of the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Lucas Baxter, 18, was last seen leaving campus at University of North Georgia on Friday. He was wearing round glasses, a tie dye shirt and carrying a teal backpack, according to a release by the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

His gold Honda was then found parked near the Appalachian Trail at Woody Gap alongside Highway 60.

Since his disappearance, multiple searches have been conducted in the area, but there has been no sign of the student, said officials.

“Our search efforts are continuing on and off the mountain,” said Capt. Marcus Sewell of the LCSO.

Those with any information on the whereabouts of Baxter are encouraged to contact Sewell at 706-482-2619 or email him at marcus.sewell@lumpkincounty.gov.

“I pray that we find him safe,” said Sewell.
