The Six Gap Century bike event, one of Georgia’s longest cycling challenges, will take place in Dahlonega for its 35th year on Sunday, September 24.
The bike ride brings in over 2,000 cyclists riding across Lumpkin, White, and other counties to conquer the North Georgia mountains.
“Six Gap is one of the most challenging mountainous courses with over 11,000 vertical feet,” said Joe Coddington, Ride Director at Six Gap Organizing Committee.
This year in cooperation with the White County and Union County Emergency Departments, Richard B. Russell Rd. will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Local residents and permitted forest service agents will still have access to Richard B. Russell Rd.
“This is in effort to increase safety for both cyclists and motorists.” said Robb Nichols, Executive Director, Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce.
