It’s that time of year again. Downtown Dahlonega will bring the joy of the Christmas season with its yearly tradition of an “Old Fashioned Christmas.” Old Fashioned Christmas begins with a special evening of events on Friday, November 24 at sundown. This will include a Christmas concert, the lighting of the Square, the tree on the Visitors Center plaza and the arrival of Santa Claus.
Festivities run through December 17, 2023.
“Old Fashioned Christmas has been a wonderful tradition which offers something for everyone,” said Jane O’Gorman, Chair of the Dahlonega Old Fashioned Christmas Committee. “The all-volunteer committee works hard all year to bring the joy of the holidays to our community,”
Special details include spectacular light displays, carolers, Festival of Trees, visits with Santa, local and regional artisans on Candy Cane Lane, carriage rides, and other events to help everyone enjoy this festive time of year.
“Old Fashioned Christmas is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the holidays with our community and welcome new friends and old friends to our town.” said Mayor JoAnne Taylor.
The entire family can come experience Old Fashioned Christmas and enjoy shopping in downtown Dahlonega’s 65 retail stores as they stay open late.
“This year we have added a special event for kids on Saturday, December 16, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. [in Hancock Park],” said O’Gorman.
This will include a Candy Cane kid’s Day with old fashioned holiday activities and crafts for K-5th graders.
