HAPPENIN' HAPPENINGS IN DAHLONEGA The American Red Cross Disaster Action Team meets the second Wednesday of each month (March 10) at 7 p.m. in the basement of St. Luke's Catholic Church, 91 North Park Street. The group is seeking volunteers to help victims of disasters in the Lumpkin County area. All interested citizens are welcome. Karen, 706-867-1910

The Lumpkin County Historical Society will meet Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at the United Community Bank meeting room, 206 Morrison Moore Parkway. Ed Haley of Atlanta will present “The Lewis and Clark Trail,” an in-depth study of the route taken by the Corps of Discovery, which laid the groundwork for westward expansion. Several notable ties to Georgia and Lumpkin County associated with the Corps of Discovery will be discussed in Haley's presentation. The public is invited.
SEBA (Southeastern Bluegrass Association) holds a jam the third Sunday of each month (March 21) from 3-6 p.m. at the Vickery House at NGCSU. The event is hosted by the NGCSU Appalachian Studies program. Jim White, 706-348-1370

NORTHEAST Georgia Lady Riders meets the second Thursday of the month (March 11) at 7 p.m. at “The Sunflower Chinese Restaurant” in the Piggly Wiggly Shopping Center, Highway 129, Cleveland. This is a chapter of Women on Wheels (WOW), a national organization promoting motorcycling for women. If you are a lady who rides her own motorcyle, sport bike or scooter or if you are just interested in motorcycles, then make plans to join us.

The Golden Stitches Quilters Guild meets the second Thursday (March 11) at the Lumpkin County Senior Center. Socializing and refreshments start at 6 p.m. and the business meeting begins at 6:30. For the March program, Janice Chesnick will give a trunk show and lecture about “One Block Wonder” quilts. We offer programs, night bee and workshops. Join and bring a friend. The Dahlonega Trahlyta DAR will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Lumpkin County LIbrary. The program, which is open to the public, will be presented by Ms. Ida “Bea” Fischer from the Gainesville DAR Chapter. She is currently treasurer of the GA State DAR Society, is on the Speakers' Staff, and has held many other positions at the state level. The program is open to the public.

The Lumpkin County Board of Elections & Registration will hold its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, March 16, at 9 a.m. in the Election & Voter Registration Office at the Lumpkin County Courthouse.  These meetings are open to the public.

The Lumpkin County Democratic Party will have a  pre-St. Patrick's Day celebration at Shenanigan's Irish Pub, 87 N. Chestatee St. on Tuesday, March 16, from  7 p.m. till whenever the leprechauns say good night!  An Irish feast will be served at a cost of $12 per person. A cash bar is available to those who want to toast The Emerald Isle.

WILL (Women in Lumpkin Leadership), a monthly professional and social networking group for women, meets the third Wednesday of each month (March 17) from 8 to 9:30 a.m. (program begins at 8:30) at the Stewart Center for Continuing Education next to Dairy Queen. $5-per-meeting fee is collected to support future activities.
