After a week of preseason practice, the Lady Saints are poised and ready to begin the 2007 season.
One more week of fine tuning is all the squad will get before they take the field for their lone exhibition game this coming Sunday against Birmingham-Southern.
A new look team will define the season as twelve incoming players hope to make an impact for head coach Chris Adams.
“The first thing that catches your attention is how talented we are,” Adams said. “The next thing is how competitive it is going to be to find your way onto the field of play.”
Only two seniors on the field in the form of Peach Belt All-Conference selections Kelly Orear and Brittany Bruner will look to take on a leadership role for the coaching staff.
“The freshmen are every bit as good as advertised,” Adams said. “We could see as many as eight or nine freshmen starting for us this season. The technical ability of the new players is very advanced at this time of the year.”
The Lady Saints will play their first conference game on the road against defending Peach Belt Champion and nationally-ranked Columbus State.
“The schedule is tough,” Adams said. “We have to prepare ourselves for a strong postseason run, and this schedule should do that.”
After four years of the Adams era, the Saints will look to build on their best season in school history at the NCAA Division II level in 2006 as they take on some of the best schools in the region.
Only time will tell if the eleven freshmen can mesh with the other ten players and be a force to be reckoned with in the always-tough Peach Belt Conference.
